1996 4.3 auto head gaskets ok,fresh water only?

Is it ok to use Auto head gaskets if you only run the boat in freshwater,or should you spend the extra $$$ on marine?

I wouldn't use any steel lined head gaskets on any marine engine fresh or not. But you can get excellent gasket kits from Felpro with composite gaskets that work great.

Ayuh,....

Steel shim gaskets are rarely used any more in Rebuilds.....
And,...
All of the newer Composite Gaskets have the SSteel fire-rings,....
So,....
As long as you're using a Composite Gasket,...
It really Doesn't matter....
And,...
As noted by Don,.... Felpro is about as Good as they Get......
