Hello,

I just got a 1988 Mariner 40 hp and it did not come with controls. Can anyone provide me any type of link of what control box I should buy. I don't care if it is used I just need to know what I am looking for just need electric start and trim control. Also the throttle and gear selector are mounted on the outside so what cables do I need? One more question, is it ok to hardwire the pin connection from the control box to the motor? It appears that it was cut off of the motor.

i have a fifteen yamaha like that, with the controls mounted on the outside of the cover. heres the one for your motor i believe http://www.crowleymarine.com/mercury_parts/338/24.cfm the dotted outlined things between numbers 11 and 5 are the throttle/shift cables which would go to your control box (you need them too. and a control box with power trim and a key)
