hello,i have a 1994 30 evinrude short shaft outboard that runs great but leaks semi burned gas out of the lower unit where it meets with the mid section.also where can i get a air cleaner for my motor?but back on the other subject i just bought new spark plugs,rebuilt fuel pump,rebuilt carb,bought new waterpump and installed.also have new drive shaft.this is a remote steering and electric start.ANYTHING YOU MAY THINK IT IS!what is it?the gas is black when it comes out of the lower unit so its thoroly mixed/burned.
You're right, it's probably just unburned fuel from the exhaust. If your lower unit is nice and tight it usually doesn't leak from there but since it's annoying you, loosen it a little, clean the edges and put a thin coating of gasket sealant on the edge and retighten it. THat hopefully will solve your problem. A little black stuff is pretty normal.
