When u put it in reverse it works fine and the prop spins, when you go into forward it revs up like its in neutral but the prop wont spin.. im not that familiar with 2cycles.. anyone have any suggestions? I just got this boat in a trade and cant wait to take it for a spin... please help!
Possible that the control box shift linkage is not adjusted properly. I'd disconnect the shift cable at the engine. Shift the engine by hand inside the cowling and see if it goes into forward gear properly. If it shifts properly into forward, then adjust the shift cable at the engine and reconnect it. If it still doesn't shift correctly manually, you will need to take it to a shop to check the lower unit.
if I were you I remove the lower unit it's very easy to remove just remember the there is a small screww under the carbs that atached to the shift rod. after you take it down manually push the rod in an try to turn the prop if it works pull the rod out and turn the prop again. if that works your lower unit is ok and check the munual in neutral the shaft has to be a certain hight. i has this same problem with my 175 and i found the rod was to high
If the prior owner replaced the water pump, it is possible that during reassembly that the shift rod height measurement was changed. This would affect shifting. When you decided to pull the lower unit, I'd measure it before you sent it out for repair.
