As I am going thru my boat fuel system (61 Larson 18' open bow) I see that the fuel intake to the tank is an automotive radiator hose, I have seen this used in a lot of older boats, but the guy at the auto parts says gasoline dissolves this rubber, and gunks up the carbs, any opinions on this?

You need USCG rated hoses only. West Marine sells it by the foot.
Iboats probably has it here to.

"Radiator hose" will soften and split when exposed to hydrocarbon liquids like gasoline and mineral spirits. Some steam hose and most chemical hose will not. If you don't know what hose you have replace it as the replacement is far less expensive than an unsuspected leak.

Kaboom.
