Default 81 Mariner 175 Trim/Tilt and Electrical

First of all thank you for letting me part of this awesome forum I have been reading for quite some time now and you guys really are great!!!!!!

1981 Mariner 175hp

First Problem - Trim and Tilt, on the throttle handle you can lower the motor but you can not raise the motor. You have to go back to the engine and you can push the button on the engine and it will raise but not from the drivers throttle handle. I am not very smart with this stuff but thinking it is a short in the handle or something. Any ideas on what I can do to fix this?

Second problem - It was running perfect like it alwasy has, then last time out it starting running really rough and like shaking it was running so bad. Took it to a mechanic and he cheked the compressioan d the compression check is perfect on all cylinders. He stated he felt is was an electrical problem only. Well he wanted $85 bucks and hour to look around. I can not afford that so gonna have to do the checking myself. My problem is I am NOT sure where to start looking. I have order the manual and it should be in her the next day or so, but thought I would throw this out to you guys while I was waiting. Now dont get me wrong I do know the first thing I should do is obviously look for any loose wires

But I am not sure if maybe SOMEHOW the trim and tilt prob with engine running bad would be related. I just bought the boat so there is no history other than what I have stated.

Any help you guys could give would sure be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

The tilt problem is between the switch and the tilt solinoid, could be the switch has failed, the wire is broken or came dissconnected at the engine. It has power to the switch as it runs down and the solinoid is OK as it runs from the rear switch. Heres the test for the ign. system from CDI
