Mercury Black Max 150 hp Lower Unit

I have a 1984 Mercury Black Max 150 hp motor with some lower unit problems. I am trying to determine if it worth trying to fix. The motor will run fine in reverse but when you put it in forward and throttle up the motor knocks and vibrates bad. Does anyone have any ideas on this.

Any oil in the lower unit?
Sounds like the fwd bearing is shot.
