i have an 89 omc 3.0L and i took it out for the first time since a friend rebuilt my carb. it runs fine but when i floor it, it takes forever to plane out. it is extremley doggish, and then every couple of seconds, its like it wants to take off but then boggs back down. i was told my adjustments on my carb need reset and to do it with the engine running. can anyone explain to me haow to do this? when im not in gear, i can give it gas a nd it sounds really healthy, but not when im in drive. thank you for any help.

Re: 89 omc carb adjustments

The only adjustments are the idle /air screws.Turn in till it bogs out and then turn out till it smothes out.Do this a couple times.
But that doesn't sound like your problem.
It sounds like a fuel delivery problem.Bad gas,fuel filter,clogged pickup,kinked hose.
The points could do the same if not set right(29-31dwell).Bad cap.Even a weak coil. Jerry
