mercruiser stern drive bellows

I'm having a rough time with the u-joint bellow. I was able to remove it, but I am having a hard time installing it. Does the bell housing have to be completely taken off to enable the installment? Does anyone have a good site I can reference to guide me through this?
The shift cable is really hard as well to install too...I am in way over my head

on my pre alpha, yes, i did have the bellhouseing loose. it let me slide the bellhouseing to far fwd. so i could attach my new bellows..... made very easy work of it considering it had sticky bellows adhiesive all over it......
