I recently broke down out on a lake. I called the marina and they couldn't come out to help. We ended up paddling the boat to a nearby dock and arranging to have it fixed the next day. The experience of paddling my 1999 Glasston DS 205 is something that I don't want to repeat anytime in the near future. Can anyone recommend an electric motor that is compact enough to stow on the boat but powerful enough to pull us a mile or so if need be? Also, mounting of said engine is something else that I need to know about.

Re: breakdown

Maybe one of those outdrive/outboard mounted electrics? I have seen them, they mount above the cavitation plate, and are out of the water when running, but are always there if you need them. probably not going to get you anywhere fast, but I think if you carry a couple of batteries then you should be ok.

and much more expensive than a membership in sea tow, or other like service.
