Cool '98 Yamaha 250 Fuel Injected v. Y 225 4 Stroke

My mechanic, Garret, who is one I do trust, has a '98 Yamaha 250 Fuel Injected engine w/ low hrs., which another client left with the him when the 250 was swapped-out for a 4-stroke. Garret tells me the Y 250 FI has nearly the environmental scores of a 4-stroke and is almost as "miserly" on fuel consumption (when run in the mid-range, NOT FLATE OUT). Maybe not the Evinrude E-tech, but a proven strong runner. With the rush to 4-stroke, the price on the Y 250 is very low.

What is the rap on the Y 250 FI? Was it ahead of its time?
Besides the savings in bucks, it would take a load off my transom.

the 98 SX250 was a decent engine, I would have to argure about its emissions and fuel consumption.
both the SX and the F motors have VST maint, the SX also has O2 sensor maint. both were decent engines.
both have advantages and disadvantages.
in good shape and carefully maintained both work well for thousands of hours, neglect them and they die rapidly.
