An XR2 is an early 80's 2.0 liter 150 horse outboard, special setup for bass boats. Definitely not a jet motor or an inboard.

There's some confusion for sure here.

John thanks for your reply,

This motor has Mercury jet drive 175 XR2 on the air cleaner it is a 6 cylinder oil injected 2 stroke manufactured in 2005. I was told that this might be an outboard converted to an inboard, just to satisfy my curiosity I would like to know what it is, might be a special for jet boats. Thanks again.

It is a hybrid, basically the outboard powerhead mounted on a jet pump. Merc's been doing this starting by using the force powerheads on SportJets in the early 90's.

No, the original SJ's were derived from Force powerheads-the 90's & 120's.

I have the 175xr2 shop manual on pdf-I'll put it on a file sharing site so you guys can dl it. Its early, Powerhead serial #'s starting at OE203000...not sure if I can dig up a later version with any ignition mods. If not this should help-very thorough.

Check your pm's.
