I have a 97 1700 lund pro sport with a 96 90hp johnson outboard. I have to wiggle the throttle control lever to get it to crank when I turn the key. What could be wrong?
Inside the control box(throttle) is a neutral safety switch that keeps the motor from starting in gear, sounds like that switch is defective or loose.
You will probably have to pull that box apart to fix it, not super hard just pay close attention to where everyhting is and don't move anything one you have it apart so it will line up when you go to reassemble.
