Hi. I am a new member and have been searching the net for info on a motor I bought recently. It is an Evinrude 20hp and on the motor has a sticker that says 1979 model, but according to everything I've found, there was no 20 hp available in 1979. The model number is also a mystery. I have been trying to search through many of the available tools with no luck so far. The model # is 209CR02R and the Serial # is C7051784. I have found that CR represents 1984 models but the engine cover has 1979 style decals and the sticker inside says 1979.
I am from Canada. Could this be a model that was only available in the Canadian market? This might explain why I can't find any info on it.

Any help here would be appreciated.

Thats what I thought, but there is still the 1979 sticker inside. Do you think it could be an 84?

canadian very possible. look for the welch plug on the block does it have any numbers. silver size of a quarter.

The CR equating to 1984 is part of a later numbering system that you will also find explained on that second link.

It may as suggested be a derated Canadian model
