I got a 2hp Yamaha for NZ$100 and am doing it up. The main bearings have little cutouts - are they essential, or can I use an automotive bearing of similar size? I can't see why not. It's already starting to cost more than it's worth but I do like to do things properly, just for hte sake of it.

Also, does anyone have a spare carb? Mine has salted up and is useless. The mainjet tube also has a big crack in it.

I have an old Mercury 2.5 and a Thruster 2.5 that seem to have a similar carb to my Yamaha 2hp. Well, the carb is similar and mounts in a similar way but the rear of the carb is a little different. Maybe I can bodge simething up. Are these engines related?
