Hi,
I have a 97 40hp Mariner Marithon. I just got the boat off my father, which lived in FL. I now have it in MD, first time on the lake I noticed a power loss to what it seem like before. Even with just two people in it the boat will not plane out till someone sits on the nose of the boat, after that picks up speed like before but just seems to lack the power it had. Also second time out once on plane and picked up speed the motor idled down as if I pulled the throtle back, which I did not, then it just dies out. Did this a time or two. I noticed the oil and gas in the water behinded the boat. Looked at the plugs they were soaked, dried them ( tooked a few times) gas leaked out of the cab. when tilled. What would cause the cab to flood out like this and also the power loss. any help would be nice

gas appearing on the water sounds like the carb floats are not doing their job. Sounds like the carb(s) need to be cleaned well and rebuilt. Not all that difficult of a job with a proper manual. Carb kits probably available here on iboats.com.
