I just purchased an 88' SeaRay 18' "Seville" Bow Rider/Outboard. I would like to mount a "In-Hull" (not thru-hull) transducer in the bilges. Has any of you ever done this? Does it work? All suggestions and advice appreciated.

I had a 87 17 Seville with 3.0L IO, I never mounted the transducer but it lay in the bottom, I would pour water to cover it and it worked fine. You can do it and it will work, I was told to get epoxy and mix, pour in bottom and set transducer in it, just be sure there are no air bubbles in the epoxy as that will cause problems with the transducer reading.
Where in the floor did you lay it? On my boat, there is a ski storage area in the floor that has a small square recesed area, but I'm thinkin' there is 4-6" of fiberglass between this recesed area and the "V" of the boat, so I'm countin' that out. The only other place would be in the "Cubby" area (Under the outboard mounting/swim platform) where the bilge drains, I could mount it on either side of the bilge pump (which cycles "ON" every two mintes to test for water), so I am sort of scared it might throw some kind of interference into the transducer beings it is mounted so close? I have not removed the fuel tank floor cover to see if there are any recese's that might permit the transducer to be mounting in that area. I was hoping someone had the same boat as me and did the "in-hull" mounting thing and could walk me through it (hey, no harm in trying, right?)Thanks......Slyclops
I layed it in the bilge under the engine, with the IO the engine is of course inside the boat with access below, it made it real easy for me, do you have access to the bottom of the hull that far back in your boat. From your post it sounds like you may have access. I was told to mix up two part epoxy and set the transducer in it, just be careful and not have air bubbles in it. You may want to put a float switch on the bilge pump, not sure if it would cause problem or not.
My original one was mounted under the engine (I/O), right beside the auto bilge pump. Not a problem until the Lowrance unit itself went bad and the new unit needed a different transducer. I mounted it just forward of the engine with quick setting epoxy, as in the instructions. Also... that was the only place the cable would reach. The cable is shielded, so that should eliminate any electrical interference. You don't want it too far forward, or the turbulence from underneath the hull, when under way, might cause reading problems... just like you don't want it too far astern where the prop turbulence might mess it up.
Bottom line - the cable length will/might determine where you put it.
I just mounted a Humminbird 610 in mine last week and tested it today on the water. It worked great. I first tried filling the bilge with water and testing the transducer for the best locations. It worked o.k., but not great. I picked a spot and epoxied it down with the supplied glue. It worked fantastic with the epoxy.
