Hey, all;

I just thought I'd share some info on current good deals on chart plotters with Sat. weather.

I found out that Garmin discontinued their 430x model of chart plotter, which comes with the XM weather antenna. This was selling for about $800 or so retail, and includes built-in cartography for "inland lakes" plus you can get a SD card bluechart with lots of fancy features for wherever else you like. Dealers are closing out the old model for $400-$450, which is about what I expected to pay for a basic chartplotter/sounder.

I got it for use as a gps and chart plotter since the other one is tied to my side scan and the garmin has a better screen. It's small but readable, and since it comes with the XM antenna I can get a subscription to live weather, wave info, temps, etc.

On the downside this unit doesn't have a sounder built in, and this model cannot use XM radio (no music). I'll eventually add on a dash-mounted depth sounder to tell me when I'm in shallow water since this didn't have it.

But if you're like me and were looking for a cheap way to get satellite weather this is nice.
Erik
