I have water in my lower unit, when we returned tonight and drained the foot the gear oil that drained out was tan in color. solid tan color. we had a pontoon accident memorial day weekend, in which our throttle cable got stuck in full throttle and boat started we my husband turned ignition, but the throttle arm was in neutral position as it always is/has been, we recently restored the pontoon, i'm sure that the cables just installed incorrectly when my husband tried to correct it at the dock when the accident occured in which our pontoon ran full throttle into the enbankment straight ahead, damaged my prop, have replaced with a new solas brand, this problem with the tan oil draining out and draining oil out of the prop are a direct result from our unfortunate memorial day weekend. if anyone has any comments, i would appreciate it. thank you. good news we have all the cables correctly installed! thank goodness.

Year of the 70?

I would refill the lower unit and replace the nylon washers on the fill plug and the air plug. Use the motor for a little bit and drain it again and see if you still have a water intrusion problem. If so take the lower unit off and have it pressure tested.
