Hello to all. I have had an 1976 Evinrude 85 model 85693D for 15 years. I had not run it for 10 years and decided it was time to run it or sell it. It actually runs well, but it is definitely time to replace the water pump impeller. I got out my generic Evinrude book, and it does not illustrate how to disconnect the shifter shaft of my model. The V4 that the book shows has a pin. Mine has a pivot arm and no pin. I do not see any other access panels and am baffled. Any help would be appreciated.

I have a '73 and I'm assuming they're the same (big assumption I guess). To remove mine....you take the bolt out of the pivot arm and it comes apart in two halves with the shift rod sandwhiched between. It actually wasn't too bad to do. I didn't have to remove the carbs or anything crazy to get at it.

The previous reply is correct for your engine. I just did my '76 Evinrude 85. The screw can be a little tricky to get lined back up though. It sits towards the base of the engine under the front carb. I had to get my daughter to move the throttle back and forth slowly to find it and it helped getting it back in too.
