Re: fuel fumes
Sometimes that vent being covered by your boat cover is enough to trap fumes normally escaping via that vent in the boat itself. Try moving the cover so that the vent is exposed and see if it makes any difference. You could also use the soapy water trick on all connections along the fuel line, and at the sender unit on top of the fuel tank to make sure no pressurized fuel is leaking anywhere. Cannot be too safe with fuel fumes....
