I have a 19ft bowrider bayliner 3.0l I/O. When i remove the canvas cover on my boat i smell gasoline fumes. i dont have any gas leaks in the engine compartment. I looked (as best i can) around the tank and still see no signs of fuel. I'm assuming if i had a leak i would see fuel somewhere. The only thing i could think of is that the boat cover - covers the vent. Any ideas?

Sometimes that vent being covered by your boat cover is enough to trap fumes normally escaping via that vent in the boat itself. Try moving the cover so that the vent is exposed and see if it makes any difference. You could also use the soapy water trick on all connections along the fuel line, and at the sender unit on top of the fuel tank to make sure no pressurized fuel is leaking anywhere. Cannot be too safe with fuel fumes....

You only want to start that engine if you are SURE there are no fumes at all. Double check all the connections with the soapy water and make sure that hull vent is open to the air and see if you can still smell any fumes. Don't take any chances, be safe.
