I'm almost embarrassed to ask this, as I am very experienced with automotive engines, but here goes...

Are the timing lights used on 2 stroke engines same as what you would use in an automotive application? I am going through the timing procedure for a Sport Jet 90 3cyl and the manual tells you to connect the timing light to the #1 plug wire. Most automotive timing lights use an inductive coil, so I am thinking I need to pick up a different timing light?

Thanks...

Re: General Ignition questions

I use an automotive timing light on 2 cycle outboards with an inductive pickup (I think) that clips around the coil wire non intrusively. And with a separate power source or 12v battery if a manual start.
