Mercury 9.8 HP Outboard - Carburetor Fuel Problems
This is the 2nd summer for my 9.8hp Mercury Outboard.
It has serial# 6196703 there really is no "set year" when it was made according to the dealer. I've looked all over online and can't find a ser# search anywhere.
In checking with the dealer here are two different carb options (have to closer inspect tonight):
1.) Tillotson (1364-7909)
2.) Walbro (WMB-1 or WMB-3)
My problem is the boat ran decent last year. I winterized it myself and put fuel Stabil in the tank and ran it so it got into the carb. Then I put fresh gas in this spring, ran it around the lake once (15min) and started/stopped a couple times and put it away for a month. I put in 1/2 tank of gas again a month later and she wouldn't start. Upon closer examination there is a "CLEAR" gas tube on the carb and it had an air bubble in it and no gas seems to be moving up the tube when the primer bulb is pushed.
I really believe the bulb got pressurized too much which popped a diaphragm in the carb. The carb tube is CLEAR (as you can see through it) and there is a constant air bubble in there that just won't feed gas into carb. If you disconnect it, of course the primer bulb spits gas eveywhere, so that is quite fine.
I did take off the end where there is a screen on the carb, cleaned it and replaced it, still nothing. Not an easy thing to remove, not sure how I'm going to get the carb out of it quite yet, having never done it before.
Any suggestions, schematics or manuals you might have showing this inside? I've done an exhaustive search online and can't find anything.
