I think the photos tell the story but I'm hoping for a glimmer of hope from someone.
Motor has sucked in water by the lower crank seals many years ago. Owner retired the motor then and it has sat ever since. Photos show conrod end caps (L-R cyl 1-4), crank journal 4, crank journal 3 and a shot of the lower crank end. Couldn't get decent resolution because of the file size limitation here on iboats.
As you can see (maybe) there is significant corrosion on crank journal 4, minor corrosion on crank journal 3. Conrod caps 4 and 3 look like writeoffs while #1 is discolored and #2 looks OK.
THe end of the crank has distinct grooves, I suspect where the seals ran.
Is it possible to "repair" the crack or will I be using it as an anchor? Am I flogging a dead horse trying to resurrect this motor?
All the piston wrist pins and bearings look fine.
Any glimmers of hope or should I be shopping for a new motor?
