Gentelmen, we are not getting lift off! 1990 Evinrude 90hp that is sucking my primer bulb dry (no pun intended) I have replaced the bulb, the filter, and sucked the vent hole on my 1990 seaswirl for possible clogs, when talking with a local dealer he said it could be a siphon pump issue and something about a check valve.....Huh? where is that located if any? maybe some specks with a detail parts picture could help or any other advise please? After reading salty ducks thread with his 1990 70hp almost sounds familure but costly. Thanks in advance for any response that can help!

Re: fuel line issues or what?

sportsman,
COuldn't you use a regular remote 6 gallon tank and see if it worked on it to isolate the problem to the tank? I'm thinking that there is a check valve in the fitting on the tank in your boat that may be stuck, but I don't know much about those in-boat tanks as I've only had one.
Good luck,
JBJ

Sounds like you have a clogged anti-siphon valve or clogged pick-up tube. If you have a remote tank, now is the time to use it and see if the problem goes away.

Hey Iwombat, did'nt expect that quick of a response, Thanks! I will have to try that idea first sounds simple enough and inexpensive enough, however if that elimantes the problem, where would that darn check valve be? in the inner part of the tank? The dealer said something about an ice pic and punching the valve out...but stated not Coast Guard worthy sounds a little fishy to me.

Re: fuel line issues or what?

The Antisiphon valve is usually located in the fuel pickup elbow or pipe fitting that screws into the elbow. On my SeaSwirl it was a checkball and spring. I used a punch to remove it.

The Coast Guars requires A-S valves for inboards and I/O since the fuel line could break below the level of the fuel in the tank. This would cause a siphon action and dump all the fuel into the bilge. Outboards may or may not have this situation, but it is much less dangerous since the source of ignition is hanging off the transom.
