hanging idle

Got the boat out for the first time this season over the weekend. I have a 470 Merc IO

It was only idling at like 500 which made it run a little hot so I upped it to 700 and we ran like that a good long time in the no wake zone.

Twice after that, cruising and then slowing the idle hang above 1000 RPM. The first time it was running at 1500, I put it in neutral and goosed it a couple of times and it did not lower. So I just adjusted the idle screw until it was 650, ran at idle for awhile, then took off. Ran it down the river a ways then went to go back to the docks, slowed down and it was running at 1100 or so.

Any ideas? I was going to spray lube on all the throttle linkage points for starters.

thanks

Ron

Re: hanging idle

Sounds like your throttle cable is not adjusted properly and not allowing the carb linkage to be pushed against the idle set screw.

Ok, my buddy has a book, I will look in there for the procedure. Never had a problem before which is good I guess
