Question 1989 V6 150 Evinrude ignition probs

I am having some ignition problems with this motor, here is what Ive done, replaced the powerpack with a new OEM pack. Stator has good voltage and passes resistance tests,
The timer base is what i am questioning, the resistance on the timer base from the black/white wire to the white wire starts out reading 11 ohms and then slowly and steadily climbs , I have no voltage out of the wires from the base (using a low peak DVA meter) .

The reason I started testing the ignition is because I only had spark on two cylinders on the left bank and now I dont have any spark at all, I have worked on quite a few outboards and have never replaced the timer base. Just looking for some tell tale signs of a bad timer base. Thanks for any info in advance.

Personally I prefer the analog (needle) type ohm meter. It seems that I have a problem at times with a digital readout.

Regardles of the stator readings..... visually inspect the stator's black coils located at the rear portion of the stator. These two coils produce approximately 300v to the powerpack capacitor which is needed to energize the ignition. If either of those two black coils are starting to melt down, dripping a substance down on the timer base and powerhead area, a voltage drop will occur which results in weak erratic, and eventually, no ignition.

Let us know what you find.

Thanks Joe for the reply,
the stator looks clean as a whistle, I replaced it a while back, I am getting zero voltage out of the trigger. Would it be possible for it to fire on just two cylinders then not at all if the trigger went bad? The stator shows 225 volts on both sides, and it also ohms good.

There are six sensors in that timer base. The readings should be identical on all of them. If they are not, then I would suspect therein lies the problem.

However..... the fault may also be simply that a pin or socket has been pushed back in its rubber connector, resulting in a poor connection which is quite common. Also I have seen the wires break off the pins or sockets BUT the wire would remain in the rubber plug giving the effect that it is connected when in fact it is not.
