Last Saturday after we loaded the boat on the trailer the engine suddenly stopped trimming up. It stopped about ? of the way up and it will not go any further up nor down from either the engine mounted switch or the throttle mounted switch. I wonder if this has anything to do with the overheating alarm going off for about 3 minutes while on our way in. I?m afraid that the temperature got high and some wiring is now damaged.

On Tuesday morning I tried it again and I was able to trim the engine all the way down and then all the way up. After getting to the top position it will not trim down again.

On Wednesday I lower the engine by using the manual release and I then cranked the engine on. While the engine was running I was able to trim up and down. Obviously didn?t trim all the way up since engine was running.

I want to note that when the trim decides not to work it affects both the switch on the engine and the switch on the throttle. When either switch is clicked in either direction I hear a clicking sound and nothing else happens.

Any ideas what may be causing the malfunctioning of my power trim system?
