1987 crestliner nordic, shifting problem!!

Hi, here is my problem 3.0 merc quicksilver shifter when shifting from forwords to reverse, and then back to forword it will not shift unless motor is off!!!:eek: what is up anyone know????:confused:

when were you cables last serviced, and changed?
