Default Testing the stator on 97 Mercury Engine

Still trying to figure out what the issue is with our 97 Mercury. The engine starts but does not appear to charge the battery. Not sure if I'm testing the stator correctly........Any help would be appreciated on test steps on the stator.

Thanks,
Charlie

It would be a great deal of help to know the model or the switch box part number or anything.

Most of the 20HP that came with a factory installed electric start have a stator for charging the battery, check your engine for a yellow and gray wire coming from underneath the flywheel to a small rectifier. If you have them you have a rectifier. they should test 65 ohms wire to wire and open to ground. The problem is ussually the rectifier if the system don't charge.

Thanks for the information. We do have a stator and rectifier and was wondering what the voltage out of the rectifier (red wire) should be when the motor is running?
