I have a 1977 mercruiser 140 engine in my old boat that has been rebuilt and runs fine. My New to me boat is an 1985 Mercrusier 140 that is bad. Would my older one work in the newer boat? The only difference i see is the exhaust riser, old one is 1 piece 90 and the newer one is a two piece. They both have points and the wiring harness looks the same.
Engine serial number on newer one is A346096 and the stern drive is a MR/Alpha One.
The old engine could not find a serial number but the stern drive is the 120/140 Merc #1.
