Default Wakeboard fins

My new wakeboard came with two fins that I can mount on the bottom, Whats the deal with these fins?

Should I try it with or without the bottom fins that mount on the bow and stern of my wakeboard?

What is the significance of these fins?
It seems like it would make a 360 more difficult.

All advice appreciated...

GOing by your other post where you cant even get up yet...you are a long way from a 360

The fins give support while carving/edging. It helps maintain the board's tracking through the water with less slippage. I suggest keeping them on until you learn to edge in all positions.

Once you master edging, you will most likely learn toeside to heelside 180, in which you can still keep the fins on, and even on more advanced tricks the fins wont get in the way.

They are removable of course as some more advance riders feel they do get in the way. My old board had a fin, and I was still able to 360+and it was fine...some riders feel it "locks" down the landing too much.

Next trip I will be armed with the necessary knowledge and will get up or drown trying, Failure is not an option.

Thanks for the excellent advice.

I think you will get up

Keep trying, really. It WILL happen, and you will then be ready for the next stage...staying up! Dont rush if you want to continue in the sport...learn each stage correctly. I highly recommend "the book" dvd series. It defines the perfect learning stages and helps you build up to tricks.

Realistically, it should take a full season (depending of course how often you go out and session) to get up, learn the riding positions and edging positions, wake to wake jumping and finally 180's and switchfoot.

Once you have those under your belt, learning anything else is simply building on those basics which can be learned and practiced on a trampoline. Even flips and 360+ are just built on the basics you can master in your first season.
