Help!... I just rewired my boat and can't get either of my 1971 50hp Evinrude's to fire. The are both suffering from the same issue with no spark.

The boat has selectric shift for each engine and there seems to be no neutral on either engine.

Both engines crank well and will shift from forward to reverse, and the electric choke is fine...... but no spark.

It seems to be stuck in gear, as I can't turn prop freely with ignition switch on or off

Am I missing something easy? b/c I had all wiring off is there something manual that needs to be done to get back to neural?

Also, is there a "neutral safety switch" thats exists?

It is a guessing game to try to figure out what you are doing wrong. You got the correct key switches??

Neutral is acheived by applying 12 volts to the green shift wire. Reverse by 12v to both the green and blue wires. No voltage to either wire makes forward. It will never shift unless it is running or at least cranking.

Lessee, as I recall, the safety switch is part of the push button switch on 1972 but it is a micro switch on the motor on '71 models. Subject to correction here on this. At any rate, that only prevents cranking, not ignition spark.
