I removed my carburator to clean and rebuild, and I found a crack in the brass tube that runs thru the center of the carburator. I figure this can't be good. I was going to pick up a rebuild kit tomorrow, but I doubt that this is a part of it. It looks like the tube is pressed and possibly glued in place. I could be wrong though. What effect will this have? Am I looking at a new carburator? Thanks, cretch.
Why are you cleaning the carb? Has it been running poor? if it runs ok don't worry about it, I have been running one for 3 years with a crack like this in it and it works fine, was going to epoxy it but just never had to take it back apart yet.

That is not considered a replaceable part, so it won't come in a kit or otherwise. I imagine it is either pressed or Locktited in. I've never seen one crack, but in my humble opinion, it won't really affect the way it runs.
The well that that piece goes down into fills up at slow speed. When you suddenly "floorboard" the throttle, that fuel in the well is sucked in through those drilled hole beside the crack to enrichen the mixture till the RPM gets up. Sort of like the accelerator pump does on an old carbureted car. Once the RPM gets up, the fuel is metered by the high speed jet in the bowl.
All that to say that, if anything, the crack will just enrichen the acceleration mixture just a tad. You probably won't even be able to tell.

Yes, it's not running right. It will idol, But dies when I try to get up ro run speed. It wouldn't run for more than a few stroke before I started spraying carb cleaner into the air intake of the carburator. Now it will run at idol speed, but not at run speed. I can't complain though. I've had this boat since it was new in 1988 and this is the first time ever I have had to do anything to it other than winterize it. Anyway, the crack doesn't seem to be much for me to be concerned about thanks to the info from you and FR. Thanks for the the help. cretch.
Have you inspected the high speed jet orfice plug in the carburetor bowl? Anything at all in that orfice will kill the high speed operation.
FR, I'm not sure which orfice is the high speed orfice. As I'm sure you've figured out by now, I'm a novice at this. I have cleaned all the orfices that I can see and all seem to be clear. What I mean is, any orfice I can find, I have sprayed cleaner thru it, and I seem to have a good flow of cleaner coming out of another orfice. The orfices that are straight thru, I can see good day light thru them. Is there something else I am missing?
I am speaking of the orfice plug in the very bottom of the float bowl, deep in the hole behind the hex head drain plug. It has a precision hole in it that must be absolutely clean. Not even a hint of gum or varnish in it. You need a special scredriver to properly get it out.
