I have a 125hp force and there is gear lube leaking from the shift screw near the bottom of the lower unit casing . How can I stop this?

I heard you we not supposed to tighten or loosen the shift screw , should I go and just tighten it anyway?

You can tighten it.
Do not remove it.
Hopefully that will stop the leak.

Tighten then test it if you need to replace the seal. Then get the seal first!!!Any place that sells Merc stuff will have that or can get it.
When replacing it put the motor in neutral then remove the screw and replace as sonn as you can.
DO NOT MOVE ANYTHING!!!!!!! Don't touch the prop.Don't turn the motor over.Don't move the prop shaft.
It will mis-align the work and then it will cost$$$$ Jerry

your motor will not shift properly so it will be out of alignment and make funny noises
