Hi

I have 87, 88SPL. I have an overheat alarm at HIGH RPM. After about 4 or so min at 70% throttle or better. It will idle ALL DAY at 0%-70% or so with out overheat alarms.

I have heard that it may be corrosion in the water jacket, the deflectors. BUT if I was to REMOVE the T-Stats all together wouldn't that open up a little more water flow. I live in Florida. Water temp on the river now is 80-85 degrees. I can live with a rough idle for a few minuets before the heads warm up if I was to remove the T-Stats.

Any ideas? Would removal of the T-Stats increase water flow at all?

Thanks a lot guys!!

removing the tstat can cause more problems. you probably have a failing impeller that is not able to keep up, or your motor is mounted high, or trimmed out to where it can not pick up enough water.

Well the impeller has less than 10 hrs on it. I do not have a T/T indicator so it is possible I am trimmed out too far I guess.
