Have a couple of times had problem with my Johnson 115 Ocean Pro from -97.
After running half hour at about 4500-5000 rpm then giving full throtle suddenly the hot alarms goes off and the engine goes down in rpm. Almost every time it?s a propeller problem at the same time. I have a ProPuls prop with changable blades. Once I must hit something and damaged a tipp. The motor vibrated. Yesterday on our first run for the year it happends again. Motor runs fine until I gave it full throtle and the alarm went off again. Motor vibrates when trying again. No alarm. Later it shows that one of four blades on prop has change its position!! Nothing is damaged. Change to standard prop and its running ok so far. My questions are: Has the prop problems anything to do with overheating alarm? Have read about fuel problems. Running on fuel from last summer. Has that anything to do with overheat alarm? Impeller? Waterpump? The engine has less than 200 hours.
