I had intentions of checking my lower unit oil and accidentally removed the screw located near the water intake thinking the screw was a vent. I immediately put the screw back in once I realized my mistake. I understand that this screw holds the lower drive shaft bearing race in place. Did I mess anything up by removing the screw? Could removal have caused something to slip out of place needing to be checked before I take the boat back out? Thank you for your expertise and response. 1989 Evinrude 150 VRO. JG

Re: Lower Drive Shaft Bearing Race

As long as you didn't run the engine, nothing could fall out of place as the bearing is quite a tight fit to begin with.

Should any leakage excist at that retaining screw location, remove the screw, clean the threads of the screw and the gearcase threads with acetone or lacquer cleaner, than apply Loc-Tite Screw Lock to the threads before re-installing the screw...... any type of Loc-Tite that states that it is for threads will do.
