Hey guys- I have seen a lot of happy fishermen out there talking about how great their Starcraft Islander 22 foot is. However almost all of these are in fresh water. Anyone have any experience in salt water? Any known problems/solutions for engine cooling in salt water? I have found an excellent boat that has always been in fresh water. Any special things to be done if I buy it and bring it to salt? Thanks for your time and expertise

Fresh water, salt water - makes no difference. They both cool your engine just as efficiently. However - when done for the day in a salt water environment I would strongly suggest the use of this product:http://www.saltawayproducts.com/
There are other's on the market but this is the only stuff I've used. Seems to work as advertised.

I'll bet you are concerned with the aluminum in the salt water correct? I believe they make special bottom paint for that. Not really sure what the salt will do inside the bilge other than eventually corrode things.

What i do is wash my boat every time after coming out of the salt water and flush the engine very well. It takes about an hour and never have had a problem. I know lots of people that take less care of there boats than that and rarely have any problems from the salt water. Salt water is not like an acid bath but can be corrosive over a long period of time.
Hopes this helps.

Just flush it and wash it.

I have an aluminum boat and am almost always in salt water. Flush the engine and hose off and brush the rest of it. Simple. That is one reason I bought an aluminum boat.
