8HP Mariner smoking/rough idle

I have an "90's" 8 HP Mariner that idles rough and seems to smoke quite a bit, I just purchased the motor and was told that it only has about 8 hours on it (sure looks like it). When at trolling speeds seems to load up and almost stall, after I hit the gas seems to clear out but still doesn't purr. I tried adjusting the low speed jet and it doesn't seem to have any effect. Many help is appreciated.

Ok, I had someone tell me that the float may be stuck, does this sound like a possibility? If so do I have to pull the carb of to tell or is there a way of telling from the bottom of the bowl?

are you runing 50:1 , try running some sea foam through it 1 oz. per gallon , might clear it up, how old are plugs, if it was flooding you'd be having real trouble with hot starts
