Re: need some dsc wiring help

I do not know the color codes but you want your GPS NMEA data out to go to the Radios NMEA Data IN.

Also you want the signal ground from the GPS and VHF tied together.

Next get out your book for the radio and see what format it wants.
Then go to the GPS and enable the format the radio wants.
Make sure the speeds and bit pattern are set the same.
Most radios will only have one or two fromats but GPS units Often have many formats.

You can also wire the Radio data out to the GPS Data in line. Some radios can use this functions to send location of other boats to the GPS.

Re: need some dsc wiring help

this is what the radio has for nema connections:
yellow is nmea 0183 in -
orange is nmea 0183 out -
white is nmea 0183 in +
green is nmea 0183 out +
red is not used on this cable
black is not used on this cable
unit has a separate power cable for power and ground

the gps:
blue is nmea out (com 1 tx)
brown is nmea in (com 1 rx)
white is rtcm/nmea in (com 2 rx)
green is nmea out (com 2 tx)
brown ext. speaker +
red is power
black is power and data ground
by the manual com 2 is used for connection to a vhf radio and i have com 2 set to nmea in/out. i have to check more of the settings when i go out to the boat shortly.

i have the green and white hooked to the green and white on the gps. from what i gather in your post i should hook the orange and yellow to the same ground as the gps? i'm totally lost on this. thanks for the help

you would think that there would be a standard that all gps and vhf radio manufacturers should follow.

Re: need some dsc wiring help

With GRN (output) and WH (input) connected to GRN and WH you have the output connected to the Ouptut. You need the data coming from an output and into an input for it to work.

USe COM 1 and wire BL - YEL and BR - OR

You also need a GRD connecting the to componets
