Oil/gas ratio for Evinrude Norseman 40HP 1972 model 40252
I've recently purchased an Evinrude Norseman 40HP 1972 outboard model 40252.
Any chance a marine expert here might know what the correct oil/gas mix might be?
I'm very new to outboard motors (well.. to boating in general and have been further humbled by reading many of your posts). Outside of regular winterizing, would anyone have insight into the motor I mentioned above and pointers on things I ought to watch for or pay special attention to for this model in order to extend the life of it?

Welcome to iboats.
Pre mix your fuel at a 50:1 ratio.
Keep an eye on ebay for a deal on a factory OEM service manual, it will pay for itself many times over. Keep her maintained and she will give you years of faithful service.
If you are unsure of the age of the water pump/impeller, I would probably start there as it is a critical piece of the cooling system. I also like to change the gear oil on new outboards to me to ensure it is not taking on water and for a peace of mind.
Any questions at all, dont be afraid to ask. Lots of free knowledge here for the taking.

I thank the two of you very much for the answer to my gas question. I have decided to take up your suggestions of acquiring a manual before I attempt to check or replace the cooling parts.
Samo_ott: I am across the river in Gatineau and have yet to launch my old 1970's runabout in the Ottawa river.

Thought I'd let you know, finally managed to get her out on the Ottawa river, went up to Parliament Hill and back to Gatineau, ran great, thanks again for the mixture info.
