I bought a PT&T unit to install on my motor...(IT did not have one originally)...! What does one do in regards to the gear engagement rod that runs from the engine locking bracket down into the gear case? I may need to explain a little better for lack of correct terminology as to the names of these particular parts! Im guessing this rod is to ensure the motor is locked in place before allowing the motor to be put in reverse gear?

Pull the cotter key out of the pivot pin for the dogs and remove them.

gosh laddies, dont wanna look like a dummy here but...I see the cotter pin and such but...when i lower my motor down until it locks on the tilt pin, when it locks in it pulls up on what im now goin to refer to as the "saftey neutral" rod that extends down in the gear case...what is going to pull up on this rod now, plus what do i do with the rod that will just be protruding up from the lower end...seems like the rod needs to be removed and the saftey neutral mechanism locked out ???
