Tight Throttle

The mechanism you move with your hand to adjust the throttle is fairly tight on my boat. When I give throttle it is not so bad, but when I am de-throttling, when I get to 1/4 thottle it almost feels like the thottle is stuck. I have to use a lot of pressure at the 1/4 throttle point to get to idel/neutral.

Is there any general maintanence stuff I should be doing to make the throttle smoother and not so tight?

Thanks

Re: Tight Throttle

Had an older model tiller engine once, throttle was stiff to turn in certain positons. The tiller handle folds at the elbow if you will, there were two splined gears at the elbow that were shifting around and would bind in certain throttle positons.
I can't remember for sure but it seems like there were nylon spacers on the shaft that centered the gears that had worn out and was letting the gears shift around or the metal frame had oblonged.
