How can I trouble shoot the signal coming from engine harness (grey wire). Is it a voltage signal? I have ammeter/voltmeter. The lead is good as I checked it for continuity back to where it connects in the engine.

If there is no signal, what is the part that needs to be replaced?

Thank,
Gregg

Greg, The tach signal is a AC current from which the tach counts the pulses over time to determine RPM. Put your voltmeter on an AC scale, high voltage and if you get no reading, back doen the scale until you get a reading. If no AC out of the VR, check the yellow wire from the stator the same way. If that has voltage, your regulator is partially or completely broke. If no AC on the stator wire, the stator is broke.
