I could use some help in the procedure for removing the lower unit on my 3hp Johnson. It is a 1996 3hp with forward and nuetral shift.

I removed the two bolts holding the lower unit in place but I can not find the shift linkage disconnect.

Any help would be appriciated.

Thanks, Pat

That's way too new a motor for me to know anything about, but I just looked at the parts list. Sort of looks like it just pulls out of the gearcase. Is that a good assumption?

What really impresses me is that it uses a spring clutch. Shades of 1950!! They reinvented the wheel!

follow the linkage it should cross under the motor and have a small screw that you undo and it lets the linkage rod pull threw the housing or rubber grommet ..
