I have drained the oil, removed the rear cover, disconnected the gear shift,
removed the 2 hex bolts fro helmet. My question....... the helmet will not swing back until I can remove the stainless piece that the hex bolts go into.
How do I remove that piece????????

Use the cover attaching screws as the jack screws.

Thanks. I tried that and nothing moved. Could it be frozen in? I have some blaster soaking in the holes now. Could there be some marine growth in the small holes that would hinder the M6 screws to not go the entire way in?

Could be anything, look in the holes and see if they are clean. They can be hard to move sometimes.

I am letting it soak with blaster. Can I use a thin screwdriver and tap on this piece between the helmet and gear case to try to free it up?

Re: volvo drive bellows replacement question

Finally got upper gear off. I had to remove the helmet from the fork. When I got the top off, I was able to tap the piece free from the gearbox. As suspected, both hole were full of crud. I think I will get 2 short bolts to thread in just to keep marine growth out. Thanks for your help, super fast response.

Just fill the two small holes with grease. It won't wash out or interfer with something else.

I have the same drive, and despite what the manual says the two bolts that you screw in are 1/4 inch NC. Tried the metric and it did not work. Found out the hard way that the 1/4 inch bolt is the correct one.

Have a great day,

Rob.
