115 Evinrude Throttle Alarm

Can anyone point me in the right direction?....I have an older (1980-1985) 115 Evinrude outboard that last summer I started to intermittently hear the alarm in the throttle go off. Now this year as soon as you turn on the key the alarm goes off every time. Of course I havent used it this year for fear of damaging it..but was hoping I could get help at fixing this...any suggestions?

Do you have an oil mixing system on your motor?

Most V4 motors in the early eighties had a standard lift type fuel pump with no alarms, so the only thing connected to the horn circuit was the tan wire leading to two temperature switches on the cylinder heads.

If the tan wires are disconnected at the cylinder heads and the horn stops, the switches are bad and need to be replaced.

If the tan wires are disconnected at the cylinder heads and the horn does not stop, you have a short to ground somewhere between the disconnected tan wire and the horn.

There should be sleeves on the wire near the cylinder heads that slip down for the disconnect.

Thanks..I will check. There is no oil mixing system, I mix the gas 50:1 before filling. I really appreciate the help.
