Im trying to replace the impeller on this motor,after removing the bolts holding the lower unit it drops down about 1 and 1/4 inch,and something else is holding it,what next?plus i have a owners manual ,no help would like to purchase service or repair manual

You didn't disconnect the shift rod. Remove the oval cover on the side, about half way down, and you will see the brass connector inside. Remove the bottom screw. Take the weight off it before you do or you will damage the threads.

I think a 55 has this plate instead of an oval cover.

thanks for the quick response,ive got the oval plate off and see the upper and lower screws however the weather here in naples florida seems to want to keep me indoors for awhile yet,thanks again will let you know of my sucess or failure
