1970 165 L-6 MC-1 drive I went to align my engine today and i couldn't get the tool to slide into the coupling all the way only about 3/4" so i eye'd the bearing to the coupler and the coupler looked low. so I shimmed the back mounts with a washer on each side. The little spring spacers are also in there with the fiber washers. I adjusted the front mouns and it seems perfect, tool slides in/out freely. Now would this mean the mounts are worn or the spring spacers weak? Should I find the cause for this or go with it? Has anyone ever had to shim the rear mounts? thanks

Ditto on the time for new mounts. Just remember to read the new mount instructions as the "NEW" Merc mounts are different from the old.
