Places to stop on mississippi lock 11-20

I might take a trip up or down from QC area and wondering if anybody is from this area and knows any good fuel or food docks. Any good beaches or islnds to stop at? Wanting also to know water levels to watch in certain popular areas, especially in sloughs.
